Links to UK destinations and beyond
Efficient transport systems are vital to any economy, and Cornwall's excellent road, rail, air and sea links with the rest of the UK and beyond are a major factor behind the growth of some of its most successful businesses. Which is why the county is continuing to make big investments in new and upgraded transport infrastructure.
Many companies relocating to Cornwall find their staff are making significant savings on time - and cutting their stress levels - by no longer having to commute through gridlocked traffic and on overcrowded trains.
Road
Cornwall now has dual-carriageway access to the whole of the UK, with typical journey times of 3½ hours from Bodmin to Birmingham and 4½ hours from Truro to London. Westfield Transport, Cornwall's largest road haulier, carries over 100,000 tonnes of Cornish-made goods out of the county each year to destinations across Britain and Europe.
Rail
Two national mainline train operators serve Cornish destinations: First Great Western and Virgin Trains. Typical journey times are 4½ hours From Truro to London Paddington and 4½ hours from Bodmin to Birmingham.
Air
Newquay Cornwall Airport is Cornwall's only commercial airport and one of the fastest growing regional airports in the UK. Air Southwest is Cornwall's own airline offering four flights every day from Newquay to London Gatwick plus frequent flights to Manchester, Leeds Bradford, Dublin, Bristol, Cork and Cardiff.

Flybe have introduced a low cost route between Newquay and Edinburgh.
Bmibaby, the award winning airline with tiny fares offers direct flights to Manchester.
British Airways run a regular route from Newquay to London Gatwick.
The airport is also the main hub for Skybus, the airline serving the beautiful Isles of Scilly. Passengers have the option of either flying out to the Islands from here or from Land's End.
Sea
Sea transport continues to play an important role in Cornwall's economy. Falmouth's thriving docks serve a variety of passenger and freight vessels, and are looking forward to a £35m investment programme from 2005. The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company carries some 60,000 people a year to the Scillies.
