Overview
David Lenderyou's Cornish ancestry can be traced back to the 1300's so it seemed fitting for him to look to return to Cornwall with his innovative business "Quangoff". David left Cornwall as a teenager, joining the army for 20 years. However, he always harboured a desire to work for himself in the commercial world, so on leaving the army he worked in sales in the corporate sector where he gained a valuable insight into a number of different industries.
David explains: "A few years ago I became aware of the volume of waste the food and drink industry is responsible for and began to think there must be a more sustainable way to manage it. I then developed the idea to supply natural spring water using a reusable glass bottle and began working on creating a new spring water system, compact and counter top that could both chill and carbonate."
Working with Stanwell Technic, David created the Quangoff spring water system (patent filed and pending). The system dispenses large volumes of fresh, soft Cornish Spring Water from a compact unit (no bigger than a Pc). The spring water is stored in reusable bag in boxes made from recycled cardboard, up to eighty litres on line, and is fed through a pipe to the Quangoff unit. The water can be served into reusable 350ml or 750ml reusable glass bottles with fresh clear branding or direct into a glass. The bottles have Quangoff or individual restaurant branding tempered on to the glass so they can be washed time and time again at high temperatures.
There is a large market for the Quangoff system, as around 80% of glass bottles in the UK get thrown away and therefore landfilled, crushed or used in another way. When the Quangoff system is installed, on average, reduces the production of 5000 bottles a year per customer.
David observes: "It's ironic that while natural spring water is the healthiest of all drinks, environmentally its packaging and distribution channels is damaging our environment. If all the hospitality industry in Cornwall alone were to use the Quangoff system, over 10 million disposable glass bottles would not be needed, avoiding landfill."
The Quangoff system is 80% more environmentally friendly than any other natural water product on the market. The water is sourced from a spring in Cornwall and then packaged on site. At the moment Quangoff natural spring water is only available for customers in the South West; this is to ensure it remains environmentally sustainable. The longer term plan is to franchise the Quangoff model around the UK, enabling other regions to benefit from the technology, using their own spring water.
"Launching in Cornwall, using Cornish spring water for the South West was so important to me as I wanted to put something back into the Cornish economy. The Quangoff system has been really well received in the restaurant industry and our challenge now is keeping up with demand!"

Technology
Quangoff has brought new technology to the spring water industry. The system not only provides an alternative to traditional bottled water, but also is an effective replacement for mains tap water systems. Quangoff serves only natural spring water using an innovative serving system that enables both chilled still and sparkling water to be provided, on demand.

Support
Cornwall Pure Business has assisted Quangoff with its move to Cornwall, providing advice on financial support and marketing. Quangoff secured an interest free loan with South West Investment Group and has also received guidance from Business Link Devon & Cornwall. "Starting up a new business is always challenging, but it's even harder when you are trying to develop a revolutionary new product. Lloyds TSB was fantastic and helped me to secure the Small firms Loan, without that I don't believe the business would have been in this position, looking positively forward.
