Third Forum Meets Innovation Experts at CUC

The third forum hosted by Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC) for innovators and entrepreneurs in the county met at the Tremough campus, Penryn on Wednesday evening [5th March]. In addition to the popular discussion sessions and networking opportunities, delegates were joined by innovation consultants, Inner Business, who led on the theme of 'Thinking for Innovation, Creativity and Change'.

Inner Business advise businesses how they can create the best climate for innovation and have worked with a range of organisations from SMEs to blue chip companies such as Coca Cola, British Airways and 3M. Their specialists held a number of workshops for the forum members- who represented a range of sectors across Cornwall, including marine, media and engineering- illustrating ways of stimulating new ideas and creative thought.

CUC Business Development Manager, Peter Castell said, "This inspirational session seemed to be of particular value to delegates. Being out of the office environment and having input from expert speakers allowed them time to examine ways of thinking more creatively and to consider what new opportunities and perspectives might exist. That can bring a fresh lease of life to an existing business or help a long held concept to take off. Having like-minded, dynamic business people in Cornwall combining their enthusiasm and drive in this way is essential. CUC will continue to welcome new members and I would like to thank existing forum members for sharing so much of their own valuable experience and positivity."

Over a Cornish supper delegates also heard from Malcolm Faiers, MD of Jetstream Sportscars, who has recently re-located to Cornwall and successfully developed a prototype track day sports car by embracing innovation and working collaboratively with a number of CUC partners;  tapping into the wealth of specialist knowledge that is available throughout the county.

Ken Martin of SBD Associates Ltd attended the event and commented, "The Innovators Forum is a great way both to meet people of a similar mindset and to learn new things of use to the business. I also caught up with some colleagues from the past and look forward to the next one."

The next forum is planned for early summer and the CUC Business Team can answer any enquiries about it on 01326 259908 or via business@cuc.ac.uk
