A record 24 destinations on offer from Newquay Cornwall Airport in 2008
Newquay Cornwall Airport will offer a record 24 destinations next year, its biggest ever stable of routes. This growth is above the national average and represents almost a 50% increase on the 2007 network as part of a scheduled route development programme that continues the airport's growth.
Hard on the heels of Air Southwest's recent announcement of new flights to Newcastle, Glasgow, Cork and Chambčry, Flybe, Europe's largest low cost regional airline, announced plans to serve Birmingham, Glasgow and Southampton from April 2008. Weekly charter services to the Isle of Man and Reus Airport, close to Barcelona, will follow. Ryanair has also recently announced that they are establishing services to Girona and Alicante 3 times a week. Ryanair will also increase their Stansted service to double daily making London and the Northern Home Counties even more accessible.
"We are delighted to see the route network expanding from Newquay Cornwall Airport and we especially welcome the new links which were previously not served and have long been on our target-list," said Chris Cain, Project Director of Newquay Cornwall Airport "This demonstrates how attractive Newquay is becoming as a gateway to and from Cornwall, with customers appreciating the ease and convenience of flying from their local airport."
"It is great news for business and leisure travellers and will, of course, drive in-bound traffic as well as providing direct links to important commercial centres for the Cornish community," Chris Cain added.
The five new destinations complement Flybe's existing routes to Edinburgh, Belfast and Geneva, making a total of 24 routes available from Newquay Cornwall Airport. The other airlines contributing to Newquay's route network are Air Southwest, BMI Baby, British Airways, Lufthansa, Ryanair and Skybus.
