Cornwall Attracts Entrepreneurs to Relocate
Over 25 businesses gathered at London's leading business venue, One Aldwych to hear Professor Alan Livingston of University College Falmouth speak at the 'I'd Rather Be in Cornwall Club'.
The quarterly event, run by Cornwall Pure Business (CPB), the county's inward investment service, provides those who are interested in relocating their business to Cornwall an opportunity to find out what the county has to offer as a business destination.
Professor Livingston spoke passionately about the CUC's commitment to delivering higher education in Cornwall and how businesses can benefit.
Professor Livingston commented: "Cornwall is going through a renaissance and redefining its future. CUC has for the first time provided an opportunity to stop outward migration. This innovative partnership has an obligation to make a real difference to the future of Cornwall. Higher education is fundamental in generating knowledge that businesses can tap into. For example, Cornwall is now producing some of the most creative students in the country - they are all ready to make a big impact upon their chosen commercial or cultural sector ."
Also in attendance were representatives from CPB and CUC, as well as Cornish companies Jarrang, UKNetWeb and the Cornish law firm Follett Stock. These organisations provided first hand advice and insight into living and working in Cornwall.
Lucy Hunt, inward investment manager added: "Cornwall's investment into its infrastructure and higher education has proved critical in creating a vibrant business community. I'd rather be in Cornwall Club provides a great platform for Cornwall to showcase its business credentials and speak directly to businesses who want to make the move, in turn generating more employment opportunities."
Professor Livingston called on businesses interested in relocating to "recognise that you are part of the story and be aware of the impact your contribution can make to the county. Do your homework, talk to those in your sector, be prepared to make a commitment. University College Falmouth is fully committed to being of Cornwall and for Cornwall. However, we are also bigger than Cornwall in the sense that we have to keep developing new national and international connections - business should do the same. Don't come to drop out - come to drop in."
