Using the latest computerised technology, Adrenaline Motorsport are manufacturing top of the range kit cars outside Newquay.

Overview

The Murtaya sports car combines dramatic styling with spectacular performance. Based on the running gear from the Subaru Impreza, which has won the World Rally Championship 6 times, it offers a breathtaking driving experience. 'What sets Adrenaline Motorsport apart from other kit car manufacturers,' explains Neil Yates who founded the company, 'is the use of cutting edge design and manufacturing processes - and the involvement in the project of top international design specialists'. The result is a vehicle that has fired the imagination of car lovers all over the world. 'This is the realisation of a lifelong ambition for me,' says Neil, who comes from a successful career in marketing. 'I have always been a real petrol head and I'm passionate about rallying and building kit cars.' Neil Yates and his partners Martyn Sutherland and Tom Taylor considered other locations for the business, but found that the support offered in Cornwall was exceptional. 'The county is going through a period of rapid growth at the moment,' Neil says. 'It seemed a very appropriate place to bring a high profile business like ours.'

Workforce

Adrenaline Motorsport currently has four and a half fulltime members of staff, in addition to the three founders. By this time next year, they expect to have between 15 and 20 full time employees. The company has been able to source most of the components and consumable supplies they need locally. And crucially, thanks to Cornwall's boat building heritage, they have be able to find people here who are expert in fibre glassing, one of the major skills needed in the manufacture of kit cars.

Clients

The cars are being sold all over the world and the company has customers in the US, Australia, Europe, as well as in the UK. Some vehicles are sold through dealers, whilst others are purchased direct by private individuals. Customers are able to purchase a kit of parts to build their own car. Alternatively, the company will construct a car that is ready to go on the road, and build it to the exact specification of the individual customer.

Technology

The cars are designed using a highly sophisticated CAD package which allows the company to design componentry and run simulations before building a prototype. This is the same state of the art software that is used by major international sports car manufacturers such as Aston Martin and Ferrari. ICT is also central to other aspects of the business. 'Our website is going to be a hugely important marketing tool for us,' says Neil Yates. 'We expect it to open up important new markets.' Clients will also be able to book a construction slot online.

Support

Cornwall Pure Business was able to put the company in touch with several potential financial partners. After securing finance from Finance Cornwall and the South West Investment Group, Adrenaline Motorsport were able to attract private investors. As Neil Yates says, 'The assistance we received in putting together the financial package made it possible for us to set up the business in Cornwall.'
